Sina Queyras is a Montreal/Tiohtià:ke-based writer, professor, editor, and literary organizer. They are the author of multiple poetry collections, a novel, and a book of essays, as well as the founder of the blog Lemon Hound, which was for many years the digital hub of the Canadian poetry scene. Recent work includes Rooms (Coach House Books, 2022), a blend of memoir, poetry, and criticism offering a peek into the defining spaces of the author as a young queer writer, and My Ariel (2017), a collection riffing on Sylvia Plath’s Ariel, reimagining, queering, and inhabiting its iconic poems. Queyras was also a co-editor of Avant Desire: A Nicole Brossard Reader (2020), which traces the essential feminist poet’s innovation, experimentation, and activism across their body of work. Their most recent publication is On Occasion: Poems for the People (2026).
Sina Queyras is part of a long line of settlers, born to a first generation Icelandic Canadian mother and a French immigrant father, on land belonging to the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation. They grew up on the road, moving through land belonging to the Anishinabe, Ininew, Oji-Cree, Dene, Dakota, (Winnipeg), Kootenai (Kaslo), and the Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) territory of the Kitsumkalum & Kitselas (Terrace) among other places. They have also lived and studied on land belonging to the Salish, Musqueam, Semiahmoo, (Vancouver, Surrey) Snuneymuxw, Quw’utsun and Tla’Amin (Vancouver Island), Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat First Nations (Toronto), Lenape (Brooklyn), Lenni-Lenape (New Jersey) & Lenape (Philadelphia). Currently they live in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal).
While living in New York, Queyras edited an anthology of Canadian poetry designed as an introduction to Canadian poetry, and for those coming to poetry. You can order Open Field here. They also co-curated belladonna, an innovative women’s reading series.
As well as writing and teaching they curate Writers Read and have hosted a range of writers as diverse as Lydia Davis, Rae Armantrout, Tanya Tagaq, Renee Gladman, Claudia Rankine and Dionne Brand. Queyras created the literary blog Lemon Hound which began as a single voice blog and has, over the years, opened up to new voices as guest bloggers and editors.
