I’ve been reading and loving the Malahat Review for more decades now, and always loved it. The CNF prize is relatively new, and it has been one I’ve watched since its beginnings. Particularly love that it’s named for Constance Rooke, who was a figure of some influence in my early writing life. She was such a stylist, and stylish, and very grand in her gestures and life. One of many figures that gave me clues on how to be a literary citizen. So, it’s really amazing news to me that a piece I submitted is on the shortlist. It’s actually even more amazing to me that I submitted at all, as I have been planning on doing so for years and never make the deadline. Finally, extremely grateful to have something from a very new genre, and a very new project, appear on a shortlist at all—it’s a vote of confidence, and I’ll take it.
